The 2026 FIFA World Cup is seeing the best USA roster ever constructed, not just competing, but winning in the most financially significant tournament in United States Futbol history.
Not only will the United States serve as a host nation (USA, Canada, Mexico), but it will also enter the tournament with one of the deepest and most valuable player pools in program history.
While most World Cup coverage focuses on match results, tactics, transfer rumors, and player rankings, APSM focuses on a different side of the game; The money. Here are the questions we will be covering today in this USNMT Financial Snapshot:
- What is the total value of the roster representing the United States at the 2026 FIFA World Cup?
- Which players on the USNMT roster generate the highest annual salaries?
- How much money do players realistically keep after taxes, agent fees, and professional expenses?
To answer those questions, APSM analyzed publicly reported contract information, salary disclosures, transfer fees, club financial reports, and compensation estimates across global football leagues.
All salaries have been converted to U.S. Dollars (USD) for consistency. Where exact compensation figures are unavailable, APSM provides reasonable estimates based on available public reporting and league-specific salary structures.

APSM Net Earnings Methodology
Professional soccer salaries can be misleading.
The salary reported by media outlets (gross headline figures), is rarely the amount a player actually takes home and can spend, invest and save.
APSM estimates net earnings by evaluating:
- Federal/Income taxes
- Jock taxes
- Agent commissions
- Performance Incentives
- Professional operating expenses
- Currency conversion impacts
These estimates are intended for financial education purposes and should not be interpreted as exact player income. Information was collected through multiple reliable sources, such as Capology, Spotrac, Sportico, ESPN and other publicly available data that APSM has researched.
Top 10 Highest-Paid USMNT Players Entering the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Net income estimations are based on a standard ~55% deductions due to federal and income taxes, agent fees, jock taxes, operational expenses and currency exchange / other losses. Athletes may work with a CPA in order to lessen their deductions, so some figures may be slightly higher than represented.
USMNT Position Group Payroll Rankings
Goalkeepers
| Player | Club | Est. Annual Gross Earnings |
|---|---|---|
| Matt Turner | New England Revolution / Lyon | ~$4M |
| Matt Freese | NYCFC | ~$675,000 |
| Chris Brady | Chicago Fire | ~$250,000 |
Goalkeeper Financial Analysis
Matt Turner represents the highest-paid goalkeeper expected to make the USMNT World Cup roster and has one of the most unique compensation structures on the team due to his European transfer history and MLS loan arrangement. Turner is currently one of the oldest players on the squad, and is also one of the top earners, even though he plays in the MLS and not abroad like many of the new USNMT players. He is currently on loan from Lyon, and is expected to become a permanent transfer.
Matt Freese got the start over Turner for games 1 and 2 of the group stage, and Chris Brady was the third string behind Matt Turner. However, Turner is a top earner, while both Freese and Brady are not top earners on the team, and both play in the MLS.
Brady however; is just 22 years old, and so he is expected to take a leap over the next few years and may end up overseas by the 2030 FIFA World Cup and may be the starter by then as well.
Defenders
| Player | Club | Est. Annual Gross Contract Earnings |
|---|---|---|
| Sergiño Dest | PSV Eindhoven | ~$4,5M |
| Antonee Robinson | Fulham | ~$3.62M |
| Miles Robinson | FC Cincinnati | ~$3.5M |
| Chris Richards | Crystal Palace | ~$3.3M |

| Auston Trusty | Celtic | ~$1.93M |
| Joe Scally | Borussia Monchengladbach | ~$1.75M |
| Tim Ream | Charlotte FC | ~$1M |
| Alex Freeman | Villareal | ~$850k |
Defender Financial Analysis
The USMNT defensive unit reflects a blend of Premier League, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, Scottish Premiership, and MLS compensation structures, creating significant variation in take-home earnings despite similar on-field roles.
Other than Miles Robinson, every midfielder on the USNMT roster plays abroad, with five of the nine guys playing in one of the top five leagues in the world. Sergiño Dest is the highest paid player on the USNMT backline, expected to gross ~$4.5M in 2026.
Midfielders
| Player | Club | Est. Annual Gross Contract Earnings |
|---|---|---|
| Christian Pulisic | AC Milan | ~$7.5M |
| Malik Tillman | Bayer Leverkusen | ~$6.85M |
| Weston McKennie | Juventus | ~$6.25M |
| Tyler Adams | Bournemouth | ~$3.62M |

| Giovanni Reyna | Borussia Dortmund | ~$1.3M |
| Max Arfsten | Columbus Crew | ~$895k |
| Sebastian Berhalter | Vancouver Whitecaps | ~$557k |
Midfielder Financial Analysis
This group contains the financial backbone of the roster, with multiple players earning salaries that exceed the average MLS compensation level.
Pulisic, McKennie, Tillman and Reyna are four of the highest paid players on the roster, and all are expected to contribute as such.
Forwards
| Player | Club | Est. Annual Gross Contract Earnings |
|---|---|---|
| Timothy Weah | Marseille | ~$6.6M |
| Folarin Balogun | AS Monaco | ~$4.67M |
| Ricardo Pepi | PSV Eindhoven | ~$3.4M |
| Haji Wright | Coventry City | ~$1.9M |
| Alejandro Zendejas | Club America | ~$1.5M |
Forward Financial Analysis
Several of the roster’s largest transfer fees are concentrated among attacking players, reflecting the premium placed on goal-scoring talent in the global football market.
Timothy Weah is the son of George Weah, the only black Balun D’or winner in history. While the young man has a lot to go to become that level of play, he is expected to be a centerpiece in the UNSMT attack, going stride for stride with Balogun and Pulisic.
Ricardo Pepi is one of the youngest players on the squad and is already valued at ~$40M+ after his transfer to PSV (loan value). While he may not get as much play time as Balogun and others, he will have an opportunity to show why he is highly paid, in a top global league at his young age.
Financial Storylines To Watch
Christian Pulisic’s Position As The Financial Face Of American Soccer (Futbol)
No active American player has generated more transfer value, commercial exposure, and salary growth than Christian Pulisic. His contract structure and endorsement portfolio make him one of the most financially influential athletes in U.S. soccer history.
Pulisic is estimated to earn ~$7.5M on the field for the 2026 season and is reported to be making ~$20+ million off the field as well from sponsors, brand deals, investments and business ventures.
He will reportedly will gross ~$7+ million total in 2026. After an estimated ~55% owed in taxes, fees, currency exchange and professional expenses, the USNMT star will net ~$3-$3.5M.
The Matt Turner Contract Puzzle
Few players on the roster demonstrate the complexity of modern football compensation better than Matt Turner. Transfers, loans, international wages, and MLS compensation structures create a compensation profile that is significantly more complex than traditional salary trackers suggest.
Europe vs MLS: The Pay Gap
One of the most interesting themes throughout the roster is the disparity between European and MLS compensation structures. Although MLS salaries have increased significantly over the past decade, many European-based USMNT players continue to earn substantially larger contracts due to television revenue, transfer markets, and international competition.
Which Player Keeps The Most Money?
Gross salary does not necessarily determine net income. Different tax jurisdictions, currencies, and residency structures can materially impact how much compensation ultimately reaches a player’s bank account. This remains one of the most overlooked aspects of professional athlete finances.
Ten Largest Transfer Fees On The USMNT
| Player | Highest Reported Transfer Fee |
|---|---|
| Ricardo Pepi | ~$42-$45M |
| Brenden Aaronson | ~$35M |
| Folarin Bologun | ~$30-$40M + 17.5% Stake |
| Mark Tillman | ~$30M |
| Tyler Adams | ~$30M |
| Christian Pulisic | ~$22M |
| Timothy Weah | ~$18.5M |
| Haji Wright | ~$11-13M |
| Giovanni Reyna | ~$10M + 15% Stake |
| Matt Turner | ~$8M |
Bottom Line
The United States enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup with one of the strongest collections of soccer talent in program history. Beyond the results on the field lies an increasingly sophisticated financial ecosystem driven by international transfers, multi-million-dollar contracts, sponsorship agreements, and global football economics.
As the tournament approaches, APSM will continue updating this database with player contracts, salary changes, transfer activity, estimated net earnings, and roster valuation updates to provide one of the most comprehensive financial resources covering the United States Men’s National Team.
USMNT World Cup Roster Annual Earnings FAQs
What is the total estimated annual payroll for the USMNT 2026 World Cup roster?
The aggregate annual gross playing salary for the United States Men’s National Team roster entering the 2026 World Cup exceeds $65 million. This structural total includes heavy payroll concentrations across elite European clubs in Serie A, the Premier League, the Bundesliga, and Ligue 1, supplemented by baseline MLS domestic contracts.
Who is the highest-paid player on the USMNT roster?
Christian Pulisic remains the highest-paid player on the USMNT roster, commanding an estimated base playing salary of roughly $7.5 million annually with AC Milan. He is followed closely by midfielder Malik Tillman ($6.85 million with Bayer Leverkusen) and forward Timothy Weah ($6.6 million with Marseille).
How much do USMNT players keep after taxes and professional fees?
On average, high-earning USMNT stars face an estimated 50% to 55% cumulative deduction rate on their gross playing contracts. This extensive financial drag is driven by top-tier international income tax brackets across Europe, localized domestic athlete jock taxes, agent commissions (typically 5-10%), and professional management expenses.
What is the difference between a player’s transfer fee and their annual salary?
A transfer fee is a one-time corporate capital payment made from one club to another to buy out an athlete’s existing contract registration rights (e.g., Ricardo Pepi’s ~$42M market valuation). A player’s annual salary represents their personal recurring employment compensation for on-field services, independent of their macro transfer market capitalization.
